Description
Another creative industry, the traditional Japanese craftwork world, had also been battling issues of their own, such as shrinking markets and lack of successors. There is a craftsmen group named “GO ON”, confronting the issues for the future, consisting of six young highly motivated craftsmen in Kyoto. Panasonic designers and GO ON created innovative prototypes by bringing these two industries, each with their own challenges, together to join forces.
Execution
For example, the bowl which can boil water thanks to silver coloring techniques used for dishware coupled with IH technology...
Or the compact speaker that adds the delight of feeling music with your palms to an elaborately designed tea leaf box that offers the smooth joys of opening and closing...
Or the sake cooler, a wooden basin that has both beauty and intensity, embedded with IH cooling technology... etc.
Late October in 2016, the prototypes were presented at an unveiling event that took advantage of its traditional Japanese house setting in Kyoto.
They were then shown at a design event that took place in Tokyo.
Outcome
The event was covered extensively by various media, resulting in exposure worth 200M yen in advertising. This was a challenge that breathed new air into the home appliance industry, while proposing future possibilities for the traditional arts and crafts.
