Background
The challenge was to unify the incredible landmark natural history content from the BBC under a single The BBC Planet brand. This consisted of the best and most iconic series past and present: Blue Planet, Planet Earth, Frozen Planet, Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II. As well as another five series announced in 2019: Seven Worlds One Planet, Green Planet, Perfect Planet, Frozen Planet II and Planet Earth III. Our task was to create a uniformed franchise brand bringing together this incredible legacy and future titles.
Idea
Create a visual system that can communicate the wonder and value of the brand to a broad audience and develop a design system that can deliver into multiple touch points. We created a unifying mark which is referred to as The Lens. Through this device we experience the natural world at both a macro and micro level. The visual poster campaign was a core expressive pillar in the brand architecture.
Execution
We created a set of bespoke posters that showcase each landmark series key landscapes with key wildlife juxtaposed with detailed natural elements. These were created from both still images and 3d motion elements. These images work as a unified set but also tell a unique story on an individual basis.
