Description
“Waterloo Vintage 1815” was produced when the 1st Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon's army at the Battle of Waterloo and aged for two centuries in the Porto Ferreira cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal).
The brand chose the famous “Waterloo Vintage 1815”, thus baptized by English “connoisseurs” who did not hesitate to classify this Vintage as an historic year, an extraordinary Port and one of the oldest, to celebrate the bicentenary of the battle.
Execution
This rarity has a unique and highly luxurious packaging and a very exclusive crystal deluxe decanter, illustrated with the unique scenery of the Douro Valley Demarcated Region and the silverware offered by the Portuguese to the 1st Duke of Wellington. Both have a totally handcrafted packaging, with silver, exotic wood and natural leather.
Outcome
This special edition was auctioned by Sotheby's in the Tower of London, in May 2015, and went down in history as the most expensive Vintage ever auctioned. All of the proceeds (6.800 Euros) went to APELA (Portuguese Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association).
This auction consolidates the brand's positioning in United Kingdom in the more superior categories and confirms the solidarity of Sogrape Vinhos, the company that owns the Porto Ferreira brand, in line with the values and essence of the brand which has shown deep social and charitable concerns since its origin, causes which were always advocated by the founder, Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a woman which indelibly marked the history of the Douro and Port wine.
