Description

An experiment that brings back a discussion that might have seemed settled.

With the aim of EXPOSING this PROBLEM, we sought to identify the real motives behind people's turning down a car just because the plate initials are HIV. Reminding the public that NOBODY CHOOSES TO BECOME HIV POSITIVE. BUT YOU CAN CHOOSE TO DITCH YOUR PREJUDICE.

Execution

We put out a video in which we interviewed people on the streets of the state capital, Belo Horizonte, and we collected testimonies in which they said that they weren’t prejudiced at all. At the same time, we carried out an experiment with other people, having them choose between two cars that were identical but for one subtle difference: one of the license plates had the initials HIV. In a counterpoint to the initial interviews, we showed that people always chose the car without the HIV plate, and presented prejudiced arguments, even when they didn’t realize it, to justify their choice. We’re trying to help the population question their actions, showing through a simple experiment that prejudice is still present, even in the smallest things. A discussion befitting the 20th anniversary of Volkswagen’s AIDS Care Program, which seeks to help HIV-positive people integrate back into society.
