We created our two robots from scratch, developing not only how they look, but their characters, how they move and even how they sound. But because we watch them grow from baby robots to adult, we wanted them to develop as they grow, nodding to their different characters. We couldn’t just scale them up and down. Their proportions change as they grow, as a human’s might. Grrr, being the more boisterous gathers more wear and tear, even losing parts of his protective cowling. They even move differently. Purr is more considered, where as Grrr carries more attitude. And of course when we get to the factory, much of what you see of the car itself, we created in CG. All of this during lockdown, shooting remotely with a crew on set, the agency in London, and Fredric Planchon, the director, in Paris.
