Overview

Background

In the Philippines, 2020 marked the highest percentage of Filipino families who experience severe hunger, with an average of 95 Filipino children dying everyday because of malnutrition.

While NGOs are hard at work to reach hunger-stricken communities, the pandemic made it hard for organizations to sustain or improve donorship.

Donation kiosks and on-ground efforts, the bread & butter of new donor signups, became virtually impossible with the national lockdown.

Save the Children Philippines needed to find a way to reach people for donations by making the process safe, accessible, and flexible.

Idea

Take advantage of the QR-usage resurgence in the country to make donations accessible and effective more than ever.

Introducing, QR for Hunger by Save the Children: QR Codes that are designed to help cure hunger.

By combining simple technology and clever design, QR for Hunger is a creative solution that directly addresses the challenges of Save the Children and negates the limitations caused by the pandemic.

Execution

Each QR for Hunger is designed to catch the attention and draw people in with its quirky design and unique versions of various sustainable food choices for children.

These QR codes then lead to Save the Children's donation page.

Through its portability, Save the Children was able to spread the QR for Hunger virtually everywhere in the form of stickers, shirts, bags, tent cards, and even zoom backgrounds and phone wallpapers.

Outcome

Amidst a pandemic and the immense challenge of sustaining donorship during a national lockdown, Save the Children was able to acquire 500 new active donors within its first 3 months, while securing 24 new business partners who were drawn in because of the potential of QR for Hunger.

QR for Hunger was also Save the Children's most accessible and flexible form of donation platform yet with over 5000 sticker packs, 200 shirts, 200 tote bags, and hundreds of tent cards, wallpapers, and digital backgrounds downloaded and distributed.

On top of that, QR for Hunger has helped 360 families within its first 3 months, and is projected to help thousands more with the help of its new partners by the end of this year.
