At the center of Qualcomm’s business model is invention. Therefore, all of Qualcomm’s communications must show invention and support invention. To help achieve Qualcomm’s goals, SpecialGuest created a new experiential program called Inventor Lab. Through Inventor Lab, Qualcomm partnered with inventors from all around the world who are pushing technology forward; and, we showcased Qualcomm technology in intriguing ways.

One such inventor was body architect Lucy McRae. With Lucy, Inventor Lab explored technologies to prepare humans for long distance space travel. The Future Day Spa vacuum seals participants into NASA space blankets, causing relaxation and increased blood circulation, while developing lymphatic and behavioral therapies. Lucy used Qualcomm’s 2net technology to wirelessly track participants’ blood pressure and blood oxygen levels throughout the process, visualizing the results in a custom-made, live stream data visualization system.

The Future Day Spa installation traveled to Re/code Code Conference at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Re/Code is an invitation-only, 3 day event where top industry influencers gather on the current and future impact of digital technology on our lives. Through Inventor Lab, media partners such as Re/Code thought of Qualcomm as “the exact kind of sponsor” they want; and, therefore allowed for deeper integration of Qualcomm into their events. Instead of a traditional sponsorship, Inventor Lab positioned Qualcomm as a meaningful, inventive partner who enhances media partner’s events.

The Future Day Spa was the most experimental experience at Re/code – vacuum sealing attendees into NASA space blankets and inducing them into a relaxed state for biometric study. In addition to The Future Day Spa installation at Re/Code, Inventor Lab created an online film that premiered exclusively on Wired UK.

The Future Day Spa installation showcased at Re/code Code Conference at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California with thousands of influential attendees. We saw a shift in the way audiences engaged with Qualcomm technology; and, featured press coverage included USA Today and Wired. Ultimately, Inventor Lab developed unprecedented event activations in Qualcomm history.
