Execution
Color-coded themes and scrollable timelines help users navigate the table, and they can pinch and zoom for a closer look at NARA’s remarkable records. The installation also urges visitors to discuss what they’re discovering. They can tag artifacts with their emotional reactions and post these responses to nearby wall monitors for others to see. Active table stations receive a notification when a record is shared, encouraging users to start a dialogue. The online exhibition takes the stories of triumph and struggle in the U.S. beyond the gallery’s walls, allowing users all over the world to explore the table's content.
Outcome
Visitors to the Records of Rights exhibit and its accompanying online exhibition explore an array of the National Archives’ treasures in an engaging and immersive way. The exhibit installation and website offer context around and insight into the significance of the carefully preserved artifacts from NARA’s collection, bringing to life the long, ongoing battle for equal rights in America. By providing access to this memorable assemblage of primary source documents, images, and films and allowing users to fashion and reflect on their own journey through the content, these experiences make history participatory for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
