Every year in Japan, wishes are written on colourful paper called “TANZAKU” and wished for upon the stars. It is a 2000 year old traditional event.The largest of these festivals are held in the Tohoku area which was hit by the earthquake. We visited the disaster sites and gathered over 5000 “TANZAKU” from the children and sent every one of them to the Space Station. A special video feed was sent from space to the disaster areas as all the wishes were being wished upon stars in space where we are closest to the stars.

After the earthquake, countless prayers reached the disaster stricken areas. When we thought about how JAXA could help the children affected by the earthquake, we had the idea of turning space which holds dreams and hopes of all mankind into a media source. And we wanted to give children a precious experience only JAXA could provide.Our idea became an unprecedented event for mankind held to wish upon stars in space.
