Background
NOTE e-POWER is equipped with Nissan's proprietary advanced technology "e-POWER", which is run by 100% electric power, with the engine being used only for power generation.
We would like to convey the appeal of this car, which has mastered a driving experience that sets it apart from ordinary hybrid vehicles due to the technology unique to Nissan, that has been dealing with EVs for many years.
However, the general test drive courses were not enough to experience this e-POWER driven experience.
Therefore, we decided to find and offer "special road" as "test drive course" where the performance of e-POWER can be maximized.
Idea
Nissan transformed a 16.3-km mountain road that maximizes e-POWER performance into the official "e-POWER ROAD" as a test-drive course for the year. Special signs were placed along the road, and a rental station was created to make it easy to test drive a car. Audio guidance was also provided to support the test drive. In addition, 15 roads throughout Japan were certified as e-POWER ROADs to increase the number of opportunities to experience e-POWER.
Strategy
Our main target are "compact intenders" who seek driving performance for their daily and quality drive. We wanted to convey the driving excitement of the NOTE e-POWER, equipped with Nissan's proprietary advanced "e-POWER" technology that combines the power of electricity and engine. However, when consumers take a test drive at a dealership, the course is always a short and boring 5-10 minute drive around the dealership. This was not enough to deliver the performance that we wanted them to experience. Nissan therefore provided a test-drive experience that could show off the performance of the vehicle.
Execution
(1) A huge signboard reading "e-POWER ROAD" was placed at the entrance gate of the mountain road chosen as the test drive course.
(2) At the starting point, a vender was set up to easily rent the car, NOTE e-POWER, which is the test-drive vehicle model for this course.
(3) On the course, special road signs were positioned, to allow visitors to experience the performance of the e-POWER to the fullest, in designated scenes such as straights, curves, and hills.
(4) An audio guide was also available to support the test drive.
Outcome
Over 75,000 people experienced the e-POWER ROAD in one year, of which over 95% were satisfied with the experience, and 65% considered purchasing the vehicle. There were many positive reception on social media, and the exposure gained 300 million yen of earned media due to numerous news media covering the project. As a result, NOTE e-POWER ranked first among electric vehicles sold in Japan between 2022 Apr. and 2023 Mar. (113,390 units).
