Description
Creatively, this piece explains a very complicated issue in a very clear and succinct way.
The idea was to stop viewers in their tracks right from the beginning with the words "The man who raped me..." and then let those viewers vicariously experience what rape victims experience within the system--the realization that there are many of them out there, the hope that reporting and providing copious evidence will lead to an arrest, and ultimate, the outrage that nothing is being done in spite of the victim doing everything they can to pursue justice.
Execution
Through a partnership with Viacom, the work was officially launched in mid February 2018.
The spot will be running nationally on all Viacom networks, as well as on ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliates.
There is no media buy--all pro bono-- but in only 4 short weeks, the spot has already aired over 650 times nationwide and gotten over a million views on social media.
Outcome
The spot will be running nationally on all Viacom networks, as well as on ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox affiliates.
There is no media buy but in only 4 short weeks, the spot has already aired over 650 times.
It's very early in the launch but already website traffic to endthebacklog.org is up 32%, most importantly on the page with instructions to write your legislator.
PR response has been extremely positive. In areas where the backlog is particularly large, the same affiliates that are running the PSA are doing additional news coverage on the issue on both evening and morning news.
