To create a film that’s true to the amazing story of Skate Nation Ghana, we aimed to keep every element as authentic as possible: Using real skaters instead of actors, shooting at real locations instead of studio setups – and using real Ghanaian music. Our selection bridged Ghana’s past with its present. “Heaven” by legendary Ghanaian musician Ebo Taylor sets the scene, before the iconic 1974 Afrofunk song “Break Through” by Marijata takes us through the beginnings of Skate Nation Ghana. The driving contemporary beats of “Mama Dey Party” by hip-hop artist Bryte take us on a ride through Ghana, before ending with “Agyeiwaa” by O’Kenneth – one of the skate crew’s actual favorite songs.
