Description

In December 2007 Kenya held a general election. A week later hell broke loose. Over a thousand lives were lost and the nation was divided.

A major hotspot for the violence then was Kibera, Nairobi's and Africa’s biggest slum.

While many picked up weapons during these troubled times, one man picked up a paintbrush and painted thousands of peace messages.

His name is Solo 7. He is an inspiration to theKibera community.

5 years later. 2013. Election time.

Again. Kibera is in a state of fear.

Execution

In 2007 Kenya’s election were marred with violence. Thousands died.

A major hotspot for the violence was Kibera, Africa’s biggest slum.

While many picked up weapons, one man picked up a paintbrush and painted peace messages.

His name is Solomon Muyunda (aka Solo 7).

5 years later. 2013. Election time again. Kenya is tense about the possibility of renewed violence.

Coke Zero saw the opportunity to endorse Solo 7’s messages of peace under their recently launched “It’s Possible” campaign.

Coke Zero is all about creating a better world so the idea was a perfect strategic fit.

With Solo 7, we attached Coke Zero “It’s Possible” stickers to many of his slogans around Kibera.

The Results…

-Widespread community involvement

-A shining social media story amid election negativity, fear and hate-speech
