Description
Our brief was to raise awareness of NatWest’s support for grassroots cricket and inspire more people to get involved with their local teams. We came up with the idea of a Secret Cricketer – a famous player, cleverly disguised – who would turn out to play for a local club side.
We needed to stage a match that would mean something. To both teams. After a little research we found the perfect answer. In 2006, Yorkshire’s Goldsborough Cricket Club 2nds suffered the worst score in modern English recreational cricket. Their defeat to local rivals Dishforth resulted in every one of their batsmen getting out for nothing. The result generated widespread press attention. That year Dishforth went up a division, Goldsborough down a division. They hadn’t met in a competitive match since. The rematch was filmed and published via NatWest’s cricket website and Facebook pages - we also launched a NatWest Cricket YouTube channel.
