Description

Strategy: The Nissan X-Trail is positioned as a capable vehicle for family getaways - so we wanted to enhance the adventure for the kids in the back seat of any driving journey.

Idea: We created an iPhone app called Spotto, an idea that creates adventure using the outside world. Spotto was born out of the insight that parent’s iPhone’s always find their way into the hands of kids on car trips. However in stark contrast to the vast majority of games, Spotto was designed to encourage players to notice, explore and interact with the real world around them.

Execution

We dialled up the fun of the family road trip by making a game out of it. Players simply download and open the app, then choose the type of road adventure they’re on.

A game card then appears, filled with images the player has to spot and snap on their adventure. To snap an image, players simply tap a card to activate their iPhone camera; one click and they're done. The photo is automatically uploaded to the player’s game gallery – showcasing their adventure.

Spotto allows players to share their pics via Facebook and Twitter, while a Pinterest feed publishes pics as they are snapped.

Outcome

While most smart phone apps and games distract kids from the world around them, Spotto in its simple way, helps them to connect with it.

Players earned electronic badges for completing levels and the best set of pics each month was rewarded with a Go Pro camera.

So far, Spotto has been judged 'Best interactive’ on Bestadsontv.com and ranked in one of Australia’s high profile media-based blogger Mamamia's ‘10 apps you should download'.
