Description
Say you’re in Whatsapp and get a message that’s not in your language. You copy it, switch to the Translate app, and paste it. Then, you translate your reply, switch back to Whatsapp, and paste that. We saw users take over a minute just to translate and reply to one message. Imagine that time spent multiplied by the number of messages you get everyday. What if you could easily translate any content, without leaving the original app?
Execution
Tap to Translate is a new feature in the Google Translate app. It lets you instantly translate any text (a message, a photo’s caption, comments, song lyrics, anything) from within any app on your Android phone. Just copy the text and your translation pops up right there. No more app-switching.
Outcome
The Tap to Translate feature receive lots of positive coverage in the US — from places like the Verge, USA Today, and AdWeek — and abroad. Now, it's the #2 most-used feature in the Google Translate app.
