Working in close collaboration with a cross-functional team at Facebook, Target

created a multi-platform (Android, iOS, desktop, mobile web) Open Graph

application that allows guests to handpick from thousands of exclusive

Cartwheel offers that appeal to them the most, and then redeem them in-store

using a unique mobile barcode integrated with Target's Point Of Sale system (which was

completely revamped for Cartwheel). The app was distributed via Facebook Mobile App install ads, page publishing, the Apple and Google app stores and via the mobile & desktop web using responsive design.

Outcome

While the Cartwheel application is still in "beta", we have acquired over five million users (the majority of whom are Millennials) in less than six months. The app has driven an incremental $100 million in revenue and an incremental $14.00 in basket size, making Cartwheel one of the most successful marketing endeavors for Target ever, and the #1 shopping application on Facebook. ??To date, the application has generated over 750 million News Feed impressions and over three million referrals from these stories. Guests have saved over $35 million through Cartwheel!

Cartwheel is not a "one and done" campaign or app, it’s a foundational component to the future of the Target guest experience and an increasingly important business driver and competitive advantage that they will continue to invest in. We believe that Cartwheel will ultimately be a $1 billion business.??
