OVERVIEW

Description

Every year 65,000 children in Israel are abused by their parents. Studies show that 70% of these children enter adulthood without any appropriate treatment and become abusive parents themselves. ELI - The Israel Association For Child Protection, created a unique campaign to raise awareness of this terrifying phenomenon.

An enormous Conceptual Art Display consisting of 1,000 toy dolls was setup in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv.Upon a closer look, one could tell that these dolls were not 'ordinary' – they looked as if they had been abused by children. A message next to the display read: 'Abused Children Might Turn Into Abusive Parents. Together We Can Stop This Cycle of Violence'.

Thousands of signatures were gathered in the square and on the organization’s home page www.eli.org.il, where people could express their support for the campaign in a similar virtual Display. Every person who left a signature was in turn responsible for the virtual removal of one of the dolls.

The event drew a lot of attention and curiosity from within Rabin Square and attracted media from around the globe.

Child abuse is one of the most terrible diseases of any society. Whenever the cause is a news-maker,

public discussion is a key to successful message delivery. Communicating this Conceptual Art Display through the news was an ultimate goal in order to spread the idea real fast and increase the public awareness in just a few days.

Execution

The event took place over two days on the 23-24 May 2013.

An enormous Conceptual Art Display consisting of 1,000 toy dolls was setup in 'Rabin Square' in Tel Aviv, the most important central square in Israel.

As part of a well planned event that took 4 month to plan, we collected old dolls from privet people and toy stores and also got help from the scouts organization of Tel - Aviv.

We cooperate with Tel - Aviv City Hall in order to find the appropriate place for the Conceptual Art Display. We recruited makeup artists and stylists in favor of the production. We developed a similar virtual dolls Display at the organization’s home page www.eli.org.il. We got the Presence of sociologist, physiologist, therapist from 'ELI' at the event in order to explain the necessary steps to stop child abuse to the public.
