Description
We turned the ultimate 80’s medium – the audio cassette- into a reading sample, with which you could literally turn back time. Book Tape. The first book on tape.
To add to the reader’s pleasure, we created an 80’s experience by making the customer rewind the tape with a pencil. We handed out 2000 copies -of 100 different designs and with an exclusive pencil- at book fairs and to journalists. The design lead to the 80’s, playing with geometric forms and a playful colour code. Also every word on audio cassette itself has been handwritten like we did back then.
Execution
A sample of the book was printed on special tape and integrated into retro cassettes.
For a special reading experience, we used the ultimate 80s trick: Rewinding the tape with a pencil. A link at the end led to a website with more information and the chance to purchase the whole book.
100 different designs of the audio cassette, an exclusive pencil and an original packaging, have been designed to complete the picture of a unique reading sample, turning back time.

Outcome
Thousands began turning back the hands of time to the 80’s and over 60 % of those who got their hands on one of your samples, actually bought the book. During book fair Heyne Hardcore reached a broad target group with the Book Tape. So the book turned into a nimble-fingered success! Also, people visited the website, which provided them with further information and let them purchase the book. The handmade Book Tape delivered a unique reading experience to the customers, which made them want to continue getting their hands on the whole book. It changed the way consumers used to look at a book and made them pay attention on a story they could have missed otherwise.
