Execution

If the Google Chrome extension was to stay with users whenever they are browsing the web, the user experience had to be seamless and unobtrusive. The application’s low setup time and simple intuitive interface allows users to quickly adopt it as a single consolidated location for all of their social feeds.

The browser extension uses APIs available from the social networks to bring the users conversations to them on their desktop, in a slick and simple bar, just a click away.

BlackBerry are well known for the market leading security of their devices, so the Chrome extension had to mirror this and ensure privacy and safety of all of the user’s data and passwords. A bespoke back end application was created to ensure these high standards were replicated.

Sequences of prototyping and beta testing allowed an application to be confidently delivered without any distractions from the browsing experience.

Outcome

The Chrome Hub was designed with localisation in mind, allowing for simple roll out globally. It is too early to say how widely the extension will be adopted, but with different cultures consuming social media in diverse ways, the plan to extend to 14 languages with an interface intuitively understood without explanation, there’s great scope for adoption.
