In this video, we demonstrate the impact that groundbreaking legislation has had on restoring human rights for Black people in America. From the 13th Amendment to the Civil Rights Act, and now The CROWN Act. Grounded in social justice, The CROWN Act is important legislation changing lives. The CROWN Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) was created in 2019 to ensure protection against discrimination based on race-based hairstyles by extending statutory protection to hair texture and protective styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots in the workplace and public schools. Dove proudly co-founded the CROWN Coalition, along with National Urban League, Color Of Change, and Western Center on Law and Poverty, to create an advocacy initiative and influence legislative policy change to make hair discrimination illegal nationwide. A CROWN Act petition was created by the coalition, and currently has over 255k signatures.
