Background
For the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra, its special water resistance was to be highlighted to achieve high visibility on the very competitive smartphone market. In addition, the film also had to have the potential to present Samsung as a love brand.
Execution
Every aspect of the commercial was studied and executed with the utmost care, from the muscles in the fish's eyes to the "fur" on the plants in the tank. Our hero was detailed from head to toe, with translucent internal organs simulated to showcase his breathing and its effects on light traveling through his body. During the shoot, we 3D scanned the entire restaurant to ensure that the environmental refractions through the water were accurate. We also 3D printed a scaled version of the fish, allowing us to better frame the shots while his stunt double posed. The robotic camera used on set saved tracking data to a file, which we then used to ensure that the CGI and VFX aligned with the footage. We photographed 360 HDRI environment probes from every part of the fish tank to ensure that the lighting was always on point.
