Background

Situation:

The ‘generation gap’ is the difference in values, beliefs and behaviours that divides Australians based on their age. Because of differences in wealth, technological savvy, and modes of communications, the generation gap in Australia is wide – and getting wider. This is a topic that keeps popping up in every public debate.

Brief:

To create a film that brings to life this generational debate and ultimately communicate that there’s far more that unites than separates us. Whether it’s a love of our sporting heroes or our beautiful landscapes, the best of Australia always brings us together, and what better way to break down the generational divide than over an epic Aussie lamb BBQ – the ultimate unifier.

Objectives:

To communicate that it’s attitudes, not age, that divide us. Lamb is the catalyst that brings all of our generations together.

Execution

Because this film had to resonate with multiple different Australian generations, we approached this as a co-direction: Trent O'Donnell a seasoned television director and Gen X'er partnered up with Aimée-Lee Xu Hsien, a rising star in the commercial world and a member of the Millennial generation. Together they collaborated to bring the unique world of each generation to life. Both directors focussed on generations closest to their age and ensured they nailed the casting and peformance direction of each generation.
