Execution
In Brazil, most of restaurants work on the “eat as much as you can” system. This system helps to put our country in first place worldwide when it comes to food waste. At the same time, Rio Grande do Sul’s Food Bank needs donations to keep helping the poor. That’s when it hit us: if people could see what they’re doing to other people by wasting food, they would think twice. By creating a different trash can, a can that shows the starvation point of view, we called consumer’s attention to the food waste subject.
Outcome
The Hungry Bin was presented to and installed in 13 cafeterias. Since then, the trash produced in those locations was reduced by 44%. Brazil still has a long way to go to get rid of its title of food waste champion. But we’re not going to stop.
