Description
The idea was inspired by a real game event. Clash of Clans player “CamaroBro” had attacked a rival clan only to have his entire attacking army destroyed - save a lone surviving lava pup. Incredibly, the lava pup managed to destroy the clan castle, winning not only the battle but the entire Clan War. We took this story and made it the anchor for our winter campaign, making the game players the storytellers of the entire campaign.
Execution
Inspired by a True Tale of Clash Achievery, “The Legend of The Last Lava Pup” is the story of one Lava Pup’s heroic tale of survival, fireballs, and taking out Town Halls. Starring Christoph Waltz and James Corden, the 2 minute cinema piece played in theatres around the world prior to Star Wars and other Holiday blockbusters and was uploaded on YouTube and Clash’s social media channels.
Outcome
UK Cinema estimated impressions are 10,272,258. US Cinema estimated impressions are 48,899.259, Canada Est impressions 15,000,000, and Australia and New Zealand est impressions 15,832,468. We timed it to show before the premiere of the biggest film of last year, Star Wars. This was synced on purpose as it matched our target audience. All these impressions helped Clash of Clans stay atop the rankings in the app store.
