Background

Alzheimer's Society is the largest dementia charity in the UK. It covers every aspect of dementia, from support to people at the point of diagnosis, to campaigning to increase funding given to the disease, from working with researchers looking for cures to helping those caring for loved ones with a diagnosis. Much like dementia, Alzheimer's Society's impact is far reaching. But the awareness of the charity is incredibly low at just 2%.

Our brief was to increase awareness of the charity and show people why the role of Alzheimer’s Society is critical in the lives of everyone impacted by dementia, and just how big the problem is.

Execution

The film, shot by BAFTA nominated director Charlotte Regan, follows a son giving a eulogy at his Mum’s memorial. He tells us of the times she ‘died’ before she physically died - the breadth of symptoms she experienced, the relationships this touched, and the parts of herself dementia cruelly took away. Inspired by real life experiences, it brings to life the unrelenting heartbreak caused by dementia.

The film ends 'With dementia you don’t just die once, you die again, again and again. Which is why at Alzheimer's Society, we’ll be with you again, again and again', narrated by Colin Firth, highlighting the charity's commitment to be there at every part of the struggle. By supporting people through their vital services, relentlessly calling for change amongst decision makers and investing in science to push the pace of breakthroughs, research, diagnosis and treatment so that one day dementia doesn’t devastate lives.

Outcome

The film ran from March 22nd and in the 2 weeks that have followed it has been seriously impactful, informing opinion pieces in national newspapers like The Observer, The Guardian, The Times, as well as being covered on radio shows on LBC and Times Radio.
