OVERVIEW

Description

Today, keyboards suggest words to facilitate text messaging. This makes texting faster, but not safer. With this in mind, we developed an intelligent mobile keyboard, turning a simple feature into a direct channel for raising awareness among drivers. How: the keyboard gives alert messages rather than word suggestions, at the exact moment that drivers are putting theirs and others’ lives in danger.

Execution

The challenge was to create a keyboard that connected to the mobile phone’s GPS to identify the user’s speed. Above 15km/h, the keyboard is activated, sending alert messages instead of suggested words, in case the person is trying to text while driving. The first letter typed triggers the alert message to appear. For each letter of the alphabet, different phrases were created.

Outcome

The keyboard was created to stimulate a change in behavior, saving lives and raising drivers’ awareness as much as possible. In accordance with this goal, the keyboard was designed to work on all Motorola mobile phones and made available, for free, through Google Play, for all Android users, regardless of brand or model.

For Motorola, car safety is a question that affects everyone, not just its consumers.
