OVERVIEW

Description

All around the world, the iconic Happy Meal box is associated with bringing children joy, surprise and fun. So as Christmas approached, we asked ourselves, wouldn't it be nice if this same box could teach little ones to be generous and spread joy to others?

The Share Happiness Box was thus launched. In the spirit of giving, the specially designed box allowed kids in store to donate their new Happy Meal toys to children spending Christmas in hospital.

Execution

The Share Happiness Box was launched one week before Christmas. After getting a Happy Meal, a child could choose to donate the new toy inside. The process was simple:

STEP 1: Put toy back into box

STEP 2: Draw a picture and leave a note

STEP 3: Write your name

STEP 4: Place the box on the Share Happiness Christmas Tree in store

At the end of the campaign, all gift boxes were collected and distributed to children in a hospital supported by McDonald’s. The same Happy Meal Box that let kids in store experience the joy of receiving now let them experience the joy of giving too.

Outcome

100% of all Share Happiness Box donations were given out to children warded in National University Hospital of Singapore by our Ronald McDonald mascot.

The success of this pilot project has led to McDonald’s planning to repeat this campaign next year for their 2016 Christmas CSR programme.
