OVERVIEW

Background

On March 25th Hollywood descended on the Steve Jobs Theater for the announcement of Apple’s new streaming service Apple TV+. This event marked Apple’s first formal relationship with Hollywood as an entertainment production partner. The Storytellers film, first screened at the event, was created to express to potential subscribers, our existing Hollywood partners and potential Hollywood collaborators that Apple is committed to supporting great stories.

Idea

The Storytellers film was created to launch Apple TV+ and establish this new streaming service as the home for the most creative minds in film and television.

This film features iconic, Apple TV+ storytellers such as Steven Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Sofia Coppola, Ron Howard, Reese Witherspoon and Damien Chazelle as they take us through their creative journey—from the spark of a good idea to the anxiety, craft, collaboration and unwavering passion involved in bringing a great story to life.

Execution

The film was shot, edited and finished in four weeks and included 10 shoot days in New York, Philadelphia and LA. The interview portions were shot using a specially-designed three camera intrerrotron that allowed us to capture three different framings with the same eye line, simultaneously. The non-interview portions were shot on a combination of live sets, studio lots and in working film offices.

The film was first screened at the Steve Jobs Theater immediately following the announcement of Apple TV+ in front of hundreds of technology journalists and the Hollywood creative community. Immediately after the film, Stephen Spielberg came out on stage and announced his new Apple TV+ project.
