The easiest way to check if you are over the legal driving limit is with a breathalyser. But no one carries breathalysers around with them. What almost every South African does carry to a soccer game is a vuvuzela. So we created the world’s first vuvuzela that is also a breathalyser.

The Vuvuliser.

Not only does it let you know when you’ve had too much to drink and shouldn’t be driving, it also lets people around you know that you’re over the limit. Even if you think you’re still okay to drive, they will tell you you’re not.

No extra hassle. No extra effort. Just enjoy the game, have some drinks with your friends, blow that Vuvuliser like crazy and get home safely.

Inspired by this heart and soul 'instrument' of South African football support, we gave the vuvuzela a face-lift, creating the world’s first vuvuzela with a built-in breathalyser.

In 2015 used a prototype to research how people would react to the Vuvuliser and after some positive responses we put the finishing touches onto it and it featured at two national soccer games in 2016.

We worked in collaboration with Ideamongary to design a sequence of prototypes, which was a year in the making. The Castrol Vuvulizer has now been on the market since 2014 and our client is looking into rolling it out across the African continent.

We initiated and began testing this technology since 2014. From initial prototyping to the final production model featuring at a soccer game took two years. We had to make sure that the Vuvuliser worked like a vuvuzela, but also that it met with the standards set by local law enforcement.

We handed out Vuvulisers at two national soccer games across South Africa in 2016 and the positive consumer engagement has resulted in an immediate plan by our Castrol client to roll out the Vuvuliser across the African continent.
