Execution
We created an installation that portrays “hanabi” (fireworks)—an indispensable part of traditional Japanese summer nights. Countless postcard-sized translucent plates tinted in various shades were suspended so that the color variations spread outward to resemble fireworks. At night, the addition of video and sound installation created a holographic and beautiful “hanabi” display that expressed the Japanese appreciation of seasons.
Outcome
Broad mass media coverage, including TV and magazines, along with the wide sharing of images and videos of the campaign through social media such as Facebook and Twitter resulted in approximately 1.2 million visitors during the two-week period of the campaign. The innovative reimagining of the Japanese “hanabi” through the integration of analog and digital generated wide interest in the campaign.
