Background

This spot was shot in its entirety at method’s Soapbox, their LEED certified factory located on Chicago’s South Side. The Soapbox features a wind turbine that generates half of the building’s energy and a green roof that produces fresh, pesticide-free produce for the surrounding community.

Even more important than the factory is the fact that the majority of the cast are actual method factory workers. method has helped the economic revitalization of the Pullman neighborhood by creating over 130 full-time jobs for community members. These real employees are the heart and soul of the Soapbox and the ambassadors who carry the brand’s environmental and social missions forward.

Execution

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by the Proclaimers was chosen because it is one of the catchiest songs in the entire world. We turned this nostalgic hit into a mnemonic device that serves as an optimistic rallying cry, encouraging people to go out and do their part to make the world a little bit better.

Because method is a challenger brand in a category dominated by well-known brands, we needed a way to keep method top of mind. By creating a parody song with funny lyrics and a sticky refrain, we gave people a positive musical mnemonic to associate with the brand, its mission, and all of its practices, as well as the ability to recall method when shopping for cleaning products.
