Description

A very nice product insight about eBay is that it’s a place where you can usually find what is SOLDOUT everywhere else. So to let people know about it, we did something very simple : we turned our competitors SOLD OUT product URLs into : The EBAY #SOLDOUTPROMOCODE. The first Promo Codes generated directly from our competitors SOLD OUT product URLs.

Execution

During one day, eBay offered the opportunity to every shopper who wanted something sold out everywhere else to buy the product on eBay with a discount. We provided them with a simple tool : directly on twitter or on a dedicated website, shoopers just had to copy/paste the SOLD OUT URL from competitors websites, and were redirected to the products of their dreams still available on eBay. And… with a 15% discount ! Thousand of URL were turned into promo codes.

This campaign was supported by two digital videos.

Outcome

Due to quantities of online articles about the operation, and a long lasting top trending topic in France, people flooded the web with SOLD OUT URL’s from our competitor websites, generating more than 10 million media impressions in less than 24 hours helping the campaign reach N°1 trending on Twitter. Increasing the traffic website by 360%.

Almost 10000 promo codes were distributed in only one day.
