Description
This cool spot shows a rhino taking to the streets of Brazil to strut its stuff.
While he walks down the streets, we see him dancing to the sound of “Knock Down“.
In the end, the ad for the official energy drink of TNT wrestling shows the beast reveal itself to be UFC Featherweight World Champion, José Aldo, getting ready for his next session.
Execution
For this light-hearted spot, post-production team created a 100% CGI rhino, which acts as an alter ego to mixed martial arts champion José Aldo, seen dancing through the streets of Brazil with music pumping through his earbuds.
The 2D lead artist acted as shoot supervisor on-set in Rio de Janeiro, where a life size foam rhino was constructed so the animators could reference light, shadow and size. ?
It was important for the animation team, led by CG lead artist, to build up the creature from scratch; creating bones and simulation systems for muscles under the thick skin. References were used to create realistic movement and shading for the wrinkly skin to ensure it folded correctly with each dance move.
The team worked closely with the Directors and creative team to bring the CG rhino to life. Every detail was examined and perfected, from the earbuds the rhino was wearing to his cheery jig as he strutted down the street.
