Description
70% of Millenials use their smartphone while eating – but with fingerlickin’ good food, that’s not so easy.
To demonstrate KFC’s understanding of Millenials and motivate them to spread word-of-mouth about KFC, we invented the KFC Tray Typer: A paper tray mat with a built-in wireless keyboard. So you can still chat with your friends or post online while enjoying KFC’S food at the restaurant.
Execution
The Tray Typer was made using circuit boards from superthin rechargeable Bluetooth keyboards, which were encoated with durable, water-resistant paper.
The design was used to deliver the message and motivate the customers to share their impressions on KFC through social media.
In a first test run, 300 promotional pieces were given out in the first two weeks of March 2015, as part of a local promotion in Munich. Upon request, customers could get the reusable Tray Typer, which they could even take home towards the end of the promotion.
For additional PR, a product demo video was put online and picked up by international media, resulting in reports from all around the world.
Now, the promotion will be continued in large scale in other countries.
