OVERVIEW

Description

Bringing about a social change in traditional festivities in a country that is deeply rooted in culture and faith is a big problem. We had to come up with a solution that could not only resolve the water pollution issue, but also not compromise on the festivities. This inspired us to design Tree Ganesha – a unique, eco-friendly idol made of organic materials that does not need to be immersed. All it needs is a sprinkle of water to complete the immersion ritual. Soon after, it would grow into a tree. Simply, by changing the material of the idol and implanting seeds within, we inspired a change in people's attitude and successfully got them to accept this new-age immersion ritual.

Execution

Just by changing the material used to create the idol, we managed to change the way people looked at immersions during the festival. To complete the immersion ritual with a Tree Ganesha idol, all we need is a sprinkle of water and the best part is, it can be done in one's own backyard instead being carried to a waterbody. This exciting new format instantly touched a chord with people. It not only solves the water pollution issue but also creates a huge environmental impact for water bodies that get polluted every year.

Outcome

The Tree Ganesha concept was celebrated by the masses and media equally. It went viral instantly as TV channels, newspapers, radio, websites and bloggers shared this novel idea, thereby creating the mass awareness of celebrating the Ganesh Festival without polluting water reserves. Although we launched the idea on a micro scale, the effect of the campaign was tremendous. An overwhelming response in the form of enquiries and orders for coming years were received not only from India but from across the world. Imagine the possibilities if every house brings Tree Ganesha home to celebrate the Ganesha Festival every year.
