Description

A new brand from Mars, goodnessKNOWS® Snack Squares, believe that every try is a step to a better you. To prove it, we invited people who’ve always wanted to try acting, but never have, to come give it a try in our commercials. Those who participated weren’t coached, instead they were given a list of product features and were asked to do their best spokesperson performance to convey them. We set out to remove the barriers that would otherwise discourage people from trying things they thought were too impossible and turned farfetched aspirations into real life accomplishments.

Execution

We created an open casting call to anyone who’s never acted before. Requirements were they could not have a film or TV credit. Then we turned that casting call into the actual shoot. Those who showed up were given a quick onceover on wardrobe and make-up. Then they were guided to set where they were told to read the cue cards. After the first take, the actors were given minimal direction and lots of encouragement. This resulted in lots of fun and sincere attempts at real people giving acting a try.
