• Bring the best of the tablet to the web by creating an app-like experience

• Change the way consumers interact with the news.

• Create a scalable approach that allows for ultimately all of Gannett's properties to be included

• Allow content to be delivered immediately to the user, without interrupting their experience.

• Make sure this can be done through a CMS that will be used across Gannett's 100+ properties.

Execution

Through a lot of trial. We went through quite a few designs, but one thing that had to be taken into consideration is that we are ultimately a news organization. Urgency must be felt by the user, but we also wanted them to have a unique experience as well. News can't live in a "clean open" environment, or then it starts to feel stale.

Outcome

We have received accolades from almost every other news organization in the marketplace and that is a sure sign that we have been successful. Poynter the ultimate guiding light for all News publications as well as quite a few other notables in the industry have written glowing reviews. Our consumers have taken note as well, with time spent and our uniques up month over month and year over year. Right now time spent has increased 27% and are monthly uniques are up to 36mm.
