Description

We turned the Volkswagen drivers' keyring into a new direct and personal communication channel: Volkswagen Connect. A new communication channel able to adapt to the place, the person and the type of advantages offered to them. We changed the way beacon technology is used, because by incorporating it in the keyring it becomes a recognisable mobile receiver for offering real-time responses and advantages on any medium, including mobiles.

Execution

Volkswagen Connect breaks away from beacon system architecture, where the emitter is fixed and the user detects it with their device, to now being carried by the user and detected by receivers.

This provides real-time information on when the user is close to a point of interest for the company and triggering a personalised communication for them.

Since May 2015 the keyring has been provided with each new vehicle. For mobiles there are additional advantages with the Volkswagen Connect App (geolocation, linking, notifications). Exclusive benefits pilot tests are currently being conducted which will be implemented in stages during 2016 to integrate the whole process: beacon identification, digital response media, exclusive benefits for customers, real-time tracking, etc.

It is already active in the pockets of 50,000 new drivers and more than 150,000 current drivers. Portugal is now ready to implement it too.

Outcome

Since May 2015, Connect has been a standard feature with every Volkswagen sold in Spain.

More than 200,000 keyrings distributed. 50,000 new drivers plus 150,000 current drivers.

31% increase in registrations on the Volkswagen World portal. It is expected to help increase Volkswagen Spain's renewal rate by 5%. It is going to be unrolled in Portugal.
