Description

In our spot, every time a Volkswagen hits 100,000 miles, a German Engineer gets his wings.

That brought lots of challenges.

1. How do you make a German Engineer sprout wings?

We worked with puppeteers and visual effects artists to create real life wings using a mix of synthetic wings and real bird feathers. On a tight timeline, we collaborated to make the wings move mechanically with the help of puppeteers so that they lived and breathed on the engineers.

2. How do you make that spot feel German?

We shot part of the spot in Volkswagen’s amazing Transparent Factory in Dresden. We shut it down for two whole days. It's a beautiful space and uniquely German. No American factory looks like it.

3. What if locations you wrote into the script…don't exist?

We had to build multiple sets. The most challenging was a wind tunnel. We teamed up with our production designer to create one that aesthetically matched the Transparent Factory and could also host the stunt of a German engineer flying through the air.
