Description

SYNOPSIS

A boy wonders what might happen if he shared an Oreo with a stranger—would they laugh, or share his positivity with the world? Classic characters twist stories in delightful new directions in this introduction to the Wonderfilled campaign.

We Are Royale developed a richly realized 3d world that stayed true to the bold, minimal and charming aesthetic of the new OREO campaign. This world lives in perfect harmony between engaging dimensional space and graphic simplicity.

An original brand song for Oreo, the 30-second track is built around a simple mnemonic hook and inspiring lyrics. Electronic artist Owl City lends his boyish, hopeful vocals, giving the entire piece an uplifting, infectious spirit.

Execution

For the Oreo "Wonderfilled" 30 second Anthem spot, we developed a stylized 3D animation technique, to capture the feeling of wonder we felt when reading books as children. To achieve this look, we utilized hand-illustrated and watercolor painted textures to give the 3D a more 2-dimensional, storybook feel. We also took a stylized approach to the lighting of the elements and characters by adding "schmutz" to help break up the crisp and clean look inherit to 3D renders. It was all about the schmutz. The Oreo cookies, typography, and characters were all animated with this digital 3D animation technique, while different effects elements were animated using digital hand-drawn cel animation. These elements included the Big Bad Wolf's huff & puff lines as well as the Squid's water ripples. These cel animated elements also helped firmly plant us visually in that wonder-filled storybook world we wanted to create for this spot.
