OVERVIEW

Description

A general election that divided the nation. A weaker economy. And an uncertain future. In a climate fraught with negativity, Malaysians needed to be reminded to hold true to their values, and be hopeful and optimistic for the new year ahead.

As we grow older, we tend to forget why we celebrate Chinese New Year. The long road home. The tedious task of decorating our houses. The laborious preparation for the reunion dinner.

Looking back, we fondly recall our happiest Chinese New Year moments to be the ones we celebrated in our youth… when we could play all day, explore new places, feast and spoil ourselves on home-cooked meals with auspicious meanings.

Execution

'Tong Nian', which translates to ‘Childhood’ in English, is a song that's instantly recognised by Chinese people the world over, sung by everyone during their youth. Popularly covered by famous and amateur singers alike because of its power to induce nostalgia, every line in the song resonates with fond childhood memories.

'Tong Nian' served as the perfect soundtrack for our web film ‘Young Hearts’ – a story that encourages everyone to celebrate every Chinese New Year with youthful enthusiasm. We recomposed a modern version of this nostalgic classic, fusing new arrangements with traditional instrumentations, to achieve a contemporary feel and add a new yet familiar warmth of emotion to our film.
