Description

The brief was to find Navy recruits skilled in Morse Code, Sonar Operation, Signal Jamming and Code Breaking.

The problem is, civilians don't have these skills. So we created an immersive game that taught them. Zero In, a global game of hide and seek, using Google maps as the gameboard, and true-to-life Navy search and surveillance tools.

Here's how the game worked. Players could hide anywhere on earth, and challenge their friends to find them using tools modeled on real Navy technology. As they played, gamers learnt Navy intelligence skills, without knowing they were being taught.

Execution

To teach gamers the skills required for the roles, we created a new digital platform that accurately replicated Navy tools. Our new use of Google technology allowed us to teach gamers Navy technology and Navy skills.

Gamers trained in code breaking, military encryption and advanced cyphers. They operated underwater active sonar and used frequency spectrum analysers to jam enemy signals. The best players even became fluent in a new language, Morse code.

Each tool was as true to life as we could show a civilian without a background check and Navy Intelligence security clearance.
