OVERVIEW

CampaignDescription

It's the world's first Live Stream Store: Kaan's Stream Store. This is a pilot experiment combining the benefits of different media: the convenience of a webshop, the authenticity of a live stream and the personal attention of a friendly cheese vendor.

We streamed Jan's cosy little cheese shop and gave it webshop functionality. This way, Jan could do what he does best: talk about his beloved cheese, and joke around with his sons and customers. But now with a worldwide audience. That watched him work, asked him question and actually ordered his cheese.

Execution

We placed a livestream camera in Jan Kaan's store. We also did some set design to make his store look more like an only shop: there had to be different clickable areas behind Jan to select the cheese.

Our mantra in our execution was: "keep it simple". No fancy 360 camera's or other gimmicks. Just a nice quiet livestream, where the little things become special. The design of the site was also focussed around the livestream, with transparant menu's the stream was never out of your sight.

The Kaan's Stream Store was live for 5 days (26 to 30 sept 2017). We promoted the store through social media with a short documentary about Jan and the Stream Store. We also used PR and online seeding to get as much people to watch Jan as possible.

Outcome

Livestream results:

- 55.000 unique livestream viewers in 5 days

- People from 140 different countries watched the stream

- Average session duration 2m 9s.

- Jan sold more cheese than ever before (over 500 kilograms)

Campaign Results (in short):

- 2.3 million video views (a short documentary about Jan Kaan and the Stream store) (goal: 750.000)

- Highest ever online brand sentiment measured (32%, 0% negative)

- 709 national and international press mentions with a potential reach of 91 million

- Measured media value (just in Holland) of 361K €

Relevancy

Kaan's Stream Store is the world's first livestream cheese store. Everyone could watch Jan Kaan, a real cheese vendor, in his store. It might not sound entertaining at first, but viewers were treated to the ultimate Dutch version of slow tv.

This is how Motherboard (Vice) described it:

"It's an ambient experience not unlike some of the best live streams: chill enough to have on in the background, engaging enough that it's mentally stimulating. Watching someone handle and slice huge cheese wheels is oddly mesmerizing. They're mostly speaking in Dutch, with some scattered English. It's all incredibly endearing and wholesome."

Strategy

To show that ABN AMRO is the sectorbank of the Netherlands in a way that people actually enjoy we decided to tackle a common problem for entrepreneurs: the demise of the brick and mortar store, which is a shame because many people value the charm and personal contact of small shops. Can we combine online convenience with personal charm, to get the best of both worlds?

That's what we did with the Live Stream Store. An experiment to help one entrepreneur and to inspire others.

As for the livestream itself: it had to be as authentic as possible. With a real Dutch cheese vendor and no pre-produced gimmicks or events.
