Background

Among Japanese fans of Professional Baseball, the ratio of male fans, especially those in their 40s and 50s, is high. Yokohama DeNA Baystars is constantly striving to acquire a wide range of fans of all ages, including women.

In 2021, they will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the team. With the aim of expanding their fan base, they conducted a campaign involving residents of the city where the team is based, as well as existing fans.

Describe the creative idea

In order to gain more fans and to be loved as the team rooted in Yokohama more than ever, at the time of the milestone 10th anniversary of their establishment, a message advertisement was created under the theme of a "Ball Park for everybody".

It is intended to represent a place where baseball fans and non-fans alike, of all ages and genders, who love Yokohama can gather and have fun and excitement, centering on Yokohama Stadium. Illustrations and copies were used to express this future vision that the team has.

Describe the execution

The detailed illustrations drawn in the advertisements include players and mascot characters that can be recognized by fans.

We tried to add a feeling of warmth to our illustration by having it resemble the style of lines and coloring of woodblock prints.

We aimed to create a futuristic feel to the illustration, so we used some trick-art techniques with the hope that viewers could enjoy the illustration from various angles.

List the results

The visual advertisements were not only available in the media for a limited period of time, such as on newspapers or transportation ads, but also used for over-the-counter displays and on items, such as shopping bags and goods, so that fans can keep them at hand. They also spread through online media, including specially prepared websites. Fans who noticed them posted comments on SNS etc., and it became a hot topic. It further spread from there, catching the eyes of a wide range of people.
