OVERVIEW

Write a short summary of what happens in the film

The film is a mockumentary on Madhav - a musician who has dedicated his life to the mastery of an unorthodox instrument, the bell. The narrative follows Madhav's struggle in being taken seriously as a musician, both by society and fellow musicians. He, however, remains undeterred in his passion for the ding dong.

The film, released on World Music Day, concludes with the message that in the pursuit of music it's your passion that matters.

Cultural / Context information for the jury

1.

'Ghanta' is a half-absurd, half-inappropriate word in Hindi for the 'Bell'. Madhav professing his love for the 'ghanta' sounds even more ridiculous because of this reason. And strangely, even in English translation, we found an equivalent half-absurd, half inappropriate synonym for the bell - the Ding Dong.

2.

The last line in the film is a play on the chorus of a Bollywood rap song. The line in the song became a 'mantra' of sorts among the Indian youth, so a humorous flip on it really resonated with MTV's audience.
