PUBG MOBILE X BLACKPINK: THE VIRTUAL is the first in-game virtual concert created by PUBG MOBILE.

With the virtual avatars of members, the world-famous group BLACKPINK finished the first global tour performance in PUBG MOBILE, showcasing a new mode of music and game interaction, bringing an immersive experience to audiences.

THE VIRTURAL achieved over 15.7 millions views, and won the Best Metaverse Performance in MTV VMA 2022, which is recognized by Guinness World Record as the first winner in history, setting a new standard for virtual concerts and demonstrating the potential for gaming and music to collaborate in new ways.

Background

PUBG MOBILE is one of the world's most popular mobile games with over 1 billion downloads and a global playerbase. They specialise in innovative partnerships with leading brands and musicians to bring players new exciting experiences.

In 2020, PUBG MOBILE and BLACKPINK (through YG Entertainment) launched their first collaboration to worldwide acclaim including co-promotion of BLACKPINK's new album and in-game themed items.

In 2022, PUBG MOBILE and BLACKPINK took their second partnership to new heights, becoming the biggest in PUBG MOBILE's history, breaking PUBG MOBILE records. This included launching the first ever virtual concert and the official debut of the highly anticipated track and co-created music video for 'Ready For Love'.

Overcoming various technical obstacles, PUBG MOBILE is the first mobile game launches in-game virtual concert globally. THE VIRTUAL is the first virtual practice of PUBG MOBILE and BLACKPIBK, illustrating a new interactive connection of music and game fields.

The concert was placed within PUBG MOBILE game environment, accessible to millions of people worldwide, featuring cutting-edge technology, various entertainment activities and themed virtual merchandises that helped to create an immersive and unforgettable experience for audiences.

Behind this groundbreaking event, the strategic initiative was leveraging the huge popularity of both brands to drive massive traffic and generate buzz globally, and alter the past communication to engage with the younger generation of gamers and musical public in an innovative way.

Describe the creative idea

The concept of THE VIRTUAL was to bring together two diverse worlds, game and music. With various creative in-game methods and contents, this event allowed players and fans to experience the excitement of a live BLACKPINK concert while also immersing themselves in the world of PUBG MOBILE.

In addition to attending the concert, players and fans were able to participate in a variety of entertainment activities that allowed them to experience the same format and vitality of a real-world concert, including obtaining tickets, watching the live, interactive gameplay, supporting idols, and purchasing virtual props.

At the same time, fans were able to unlock different levels of promotional resources for their idols by completing exclusive tasks in-game.

For over two years, PUBG MOBILE and YG Entertainment worked closely on each phase of the in-game concert development and MV production, emerging fresh ideas and innovative inspirations from both gaming and music perspective.

July 12th - PUBG MOBILE revealed the return of BLACKPINK partnership, announcing the first Virtual Concert in game. An 'special track' debuting was teased to build hype.

July 22nd - PUBG MOBILE hosted the first-ever virtual concert "The Virtual" featuring a selection of BLACKPINK's biggest hits and the debut tease of "Ready For Love".

July 29th - PUBG MOBILE released the co-branded "Ready for Love" music video available exclusively on PUBG MOBILE and BLACKPINK's YouTube channels.

Both two parties invested massive marketing resources and cross promotion over 200 countries and regions to maximise the awareness and public impact, hitting the global new trend during the period. Socials, Press, communities, online and offline media promotion were supported.

THE VIRTUAL is the first virtual concert launched by a mobile game on a global scale.

Teasing the special track "Ready For Love", THE VIRTUAL in-game concert achieved over 15.7 millions views, and won the Best Metaverse Performance in MTV VMA 2022, which is recognized by Guinness World Record as the first winner in history.

'Ready For Love' hit No. 1 on Billboard's trending music chart as the music video's release continued to make headlines across the world. Views exceeded 170M, making it the highest-played video in PUBG MOBILE history.

The partnership reached estimated 12.8 Billion total impressions. 5282 press articles were reported globally including placements in gaming, entertainment, music, national and lifestyle top tier international titles. On socials, the partnership reached an estimated 72 million engagements with 91% positive sentiment. Twitter hot searches topped the global, regional, music and entertainment charts creating trends and buzz around launch.
