Write a short summary of what happens in the radio or audio work.

The piece tells the story of Bob, a plastic bag who doesn't want to be a plastic bag. It takes the listener on a Bob's transformative journey from being a bag bobbing in the ocean to becoming Polly, an ingredient in the paint used to brighten the walls of a primary school.

Bob was a bag bobbing in the bright blue sea.

Bobbity-bobbitty-Bob.

By n by, Bob n Bob’s buds became a big problem,

Blocking the breath of beautiful beasts and bulging their bellies,

blemishing bays and blighting beaches.

Bobbity-bobbity-bobbity Bob.

Bob didn’t want to be bad, Bob didn’t even want to be Bob.

But Bob is a bag and a bag is Bob.

Bob felt bleak, Bob felt blue.

But one balmy day, unbeknownst to Bob, he began a beautiful journey to become…Polly.

Poked with a peg, picked up and placed in a packet with his plasticy pals, he was put on the path to a place of possibility.

He was pulverized, purified and poured into his primary components. And then, promptly, he was transformed into a pint of pretty pink paint called Polly. Today, Polly puts on performances for petulant primary school pupils as she pretties up the passage from the playground. And she couldn’t be prouder. Pip-pip for pretty Polly.

Background:

Currently, plastic that is recycled is predominantly turned into more plastic. Clariter's proprietary clean tech is able to reduce plastic to its base ingredients, which enables that plastic to be turned into anything you could normally create with hydrocarbons - wax, paint ingredients, lip balm etc.

The brief was to tell the story of this transformation in a non-technical, highly human, but also cost-effective way.

The objectives were to help people understand and care about the transformative ability of the Clariter technology.

By telling the story in a human way the post received the highest engagement of any Clariter brand post to date.

Tell the jury about the casting process.

The idea for the VO casting was inspired by the storytelling of Werner Herzog, the iconic film director and unwitting cult VO artist. It was important to find an authentic German artist and after an extensive search in both the UK and Germany, we discovered Wolfgang Trumpeter whose voice brought an unexpected warmth to the story.
