BriefExplanation
A female teacher is standing alone in a long hallway of a school and an echo of ringing chime tells us the beginning of her lesson.
Turning back slowly after giving her single gaze for paying attention to us, she opens up the door of the classroom, then we walk in together.
In the room, there is a group of students, taking a tacit look at us.
They seem to be bored, feeling tired and paying little attention to what’s going to happen from now.
The girls look so natural, tidily dressed in each of their uniforms.
Beautiful and yet archly implying something without saying.
The one who is reading a book is aware we are approaching her, turns her face back gently to give us a smile.
Then suddenly, we find, that book which she reads try to tell us the truth which exists behind the whole entire space.
Effectiveness
To complete all tasks while the camera is turning on sounds simple but It actually was challenging ever. To realize this uncut time-lapse, we searched for actual high-school students, conducted couple of make-up tests and 4 times test shooting to simulate the detailed position of models and how much time per model we can spare for putting make-up on.
But in fact the blueprint of production was still not clear until the final day of shooting.
Utilizing a motion-control camera to trace the entire transformation for 7 hours which means no interruption allowed, and it was huge burden to the hair and makeup team and models.
We had to change the way of the process many times as the budget was also tightly limited and relatively lower than the average for the short-films in such length.
However we finally come together and made it happened.
EntrySummary
Originally this video was made for younger generation in japan, economically for domestic youth market.
To let them share widely, the film should reflect their interest and be entertaining.
We currently see that this generation has very little psychological resistance about beautifying themselves regardless of gender.
In fact, Japan has seen the birth of “otokono-ko” culture where young men dress up like cute girls; many Japanese boys high school hold annual beauty pageants that are trends on social media.
This kind of cultural aspect may not be essential context or major part of the idea for completing this film work however we could also say it would’ve made it harder to reach to the result without the current movement in Japan such as the flexible deviation from some sort of boundary.
