BriefExplanation
This anthem film is meant to inspire educators and parents to see the power and potential of code so they may actively encourage their students and daughters to pursue Computer Science.
EntrySummary
Pop culture depicts coding as all about sitting in a dark room, in front of a small screen, processing cascades of numbers. The problem with this perception is that it’s keeping too many girls from coding. They see coding as abstract, anti-social and boring.
What makes this perception even more problematic is that technology is becoming the new literacy and is shaping modern culture. And right now, one gender is doing almost all of the shaping.
In fact, only 0.4% of high school seniors plan to major in Computer Science. Out of 100 that’s not even one whole girl.
Google’s research showed us that encouragement from educators and parents plays a significant role in reinforcing interest in Computer Science as well as fostering interest among their students and daughters when none existed.
We created this anthem film as a reaction to these findings in order to rally, educate and inspire teachers and parents to expose and encourage the next generation of girls to code.
